Remember that night in Quebec city ?
Moose, Joel Plaskett and Quebec City
Posted by josephyarmush on May 08, 2007
last thursday, a few members of kill the lights had to quit the band. not due to infighting or artistic differences. that's shit. but due to the fact that yann and joseph hit a moose and almost died. that's a real reason. it was thursday last, and we were driving to quebec with a few friends to party and see a joel plaskett concert. you don't need a good reason to either of those, because they both are usually good times. we're making good time, eating chips or whatever, and we drive through Trois Rivieres, the industrious town between Montreal and Quebec. The stars are out, we're surrounded by spruce trees and Neil Young comes on the radio. Its almost too Canadian. But, no. More Canadian would be a moose running across the highway! Yep, the scariest thing a motorist who's doing 120 km/hr could see 50 meters in front of him. So I start slowly saying, "moose, moose" because I'm a little surprised at the Farley Mowatt novel unfolding in front of my eyes. As we rapidly approach the 7 ft Yoko, I'm yelling, "MOOSE!!!". The brakes screech, I duck and there's a very loud "smack". We don't know if we're alive, injured or what. It's too early to tell. I hear, "are you alright?", everyone responds "yeah" with a holy-fuck-did-that-just-happen?! tone in their voices. We get out of the car, there's a sedan in the ditch across the highway, and the moose is on the shoulder of the road with it's legs going every way. There are hugs all around, then stares, then wide eyed gawking at the moose, the car in the ditch and ourselves. It was weird. So the cops shot the moose, we got towed to Quebec and walked in to the Joel Plaskett concert during "Snowed In". Caught his last 5 songs, drank 6000 shots of whiskey and danced all night in the old town. It was great. Kill the Lights will fortunately stick around and look out this summer for shows and we can tell the story in person.joe
