The Joel Plaskett Emergency has made it through 2 nights and only this night remains for the relentless rock down to go into the books . No opener tonight , after a entertaining Shotgun Jimmy set last night , so 2 sets . New fave opener Lightening Bolt may start things for the 3 rd straight night . Get there early ; plush red curtains pull at 9 :45 .

While JOEL resuscitates the UK single -handedly , Emergency Dave and Chris remain in Halifax to see destiny semi -fulfilled with a stellar show at the Carleton with a guy that Springsteen invites on stage , NYC's Willie Nile , that defied the mortality of rock and roll . The EMERGENCY's 10th Anniversary has gone nearly unnoticed by one and all ; we'd be remiss not to reminisce a bit for ol' tymes sake , eh ? We'll be posting some photos from throughout the years ( Those hardscrabble years ... when we never knew where our next buy-out was coming from ! When you slept three in a room ! Instead of two ) . That's all in the past now . Now , one can sit back and savour the rewards of hard work and determination from the comforts of home , and look back with satisfaction at a job well done . And forward , to a job tomorrow morning painting Steph's folks condo . Dig the memories .

Discs of the year: Playing by ear
Doug Taylor's high fivesDave Marsh, The True Love Rules (New Scotland) Bursting from behind the Emergency skins, Marsh reveals mad guitar chops and a kinship with everyone from Jimmy Webb to Slade. This mature and reflective album morphs into a colossal stomper live, as on Natal Day weekend at Alderney Landing.

EXCLAIM! Review
Dave Marsh The True Love Rules
By Vish Khanna
Dave Marsh is a gifted songwriter and his fixation on edgy pop rock has yielded the best record from Halifax’s over-30 set in years. Sitting behind the Super Friendz and the Joel Plaskett Emergency as a solidly inventive drummer, Marsh is more than an unsung sideman and, on rare occasions, his distinctive compositions have snuck onto records by these aforementioned bands. The True Love Rules is Marsh’s first opportunity to stretch out and explore a crossroads that finds punk, glam rock, new wave and folk colliding beautifully. He invites past and present collaborators to help his shape infectious compositions, many of which celebrate Halifax. The big rock of “Backstreets Thread” is a fun roll call for local cronies, while traces of ’70s era Bowie are all over “Darling You, Nothing Else Matters” and “Move You Around.” There’s a cool kind of passion on The True Love Rules, a thoughtfully layered bit of cocky rock’n’roll by Dave Marsh.
